INT Information Technology Courses at Global Campus

Become fluent in the growing field of Information Technology. These courses form the core of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program at the Forbes School of Business & Technology. You will dive deep into important IT topics such as computer components, hardware and software, computer networking, and IT strategy and management. You will also learn how to design websites, apps, and Human Computer Interfaces (HCI).

INT Information Technology Class Descriptions and Credit Information

INT 100 Fundamentals of Information Technology & Literacy

3 Credits
This course is designed to prepare students for their degree program path. The Fundamentals of Information Technology and Literacy course covers concepts to enable fluency in Information Technology (IT), a fluency that the National Research Council (NRC) considers an important component of the life-long learning process. This course includes a review of basic concepts needed for the program including topics such as operating systems and computer components, hardware and software, basics of database, programming and system design, and other concepts that encourages critical thinking.

INT 300 Network and Physical Infrastructure Security

3 Credits

This course equips students with practical skills to identify and mitigate cybersecurity threats, emphasizing hardware aspects within enterprise networks. Through lectures and hands-on labs, students will learn advanced threat-hunting techniques, including hardware-based malware detection and firmware analysis. By the end of the course, students will have a robust understanding of hardware and physical security in networks and be well-prepared for various roles in cybersecurity.

INT 301 Computer Networking

3 Credits

This course provides a comprehensive overview of digital and analog transmission. The course discusses fundamentals of voice, video and data processing, client-server architectures, Open Systems Interconnect model (OSI), Network Components, Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), and cutting edge technologies. In addition fundamentals of Ethernet, TCP/IP, and other high speed protocols, broadband communication systems will also be presented. Participating students actively learn via case studies that provide “real-world” examples and scenarios of modern state of the art data communication systems.

INT 303 Human Computer Interaction

3 Credits

This course will focus on the scientific principles of Human Computer Interface (HCI) design methodology and the user-interface used in the HCI implementation. Covered topics include human cognition, HCI theories, role of end user, prototyping, user interface design, components of graphical user interface (GUI), system usability and accessibility. Prerequisite: CST 301.

INT 304 Web Design & Development

3 Credits

Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are the next big thing in web development as they bring mobile-app-like experiences to your users without requiring them to install an app from the app store/ play store. In this course, students will study the basics of Progressive Web Application (PWA) development using React.js.  Topics such as functional complements lifecycle, props, states, components, hooks are covered while focusing on page layout methods, design coding practices, usability, and accessibility issues. Prerequisite: CST 301.

INT 305 Mobile Application Design & Development

3 Credits

This course will focus on the principles of mobile applications development. Students will develop mobile applications on platforms, such as Android. Major topics include memory management, (UID) User Interface Design and Development, input and data handling, network techniques, URL loading, and GPS and motion sensing. Students will create projects, including conception analysis, design and implementation, and testing, to be deployed in real-world applications. Prerequisite: CST 301.

INT 306 Introduction to JavaScript Programming

3 Credits

This course introduces students to advanced programming with JavaScript. Students will learn about the syntax of JavaScript commands and operators, including variables, arrays, functions, and event handlers. In this course, students will apply concepts and features of object-oriented programming. Prerequisite: CST 301.

INT 401 Information Technology Strategy & Management

3 Credits

Information Technology has the potential to increase personal and organizational productivity and provide competitive business advantages. The primary objective of the course is to familiarize students with Information Technology that can be used in solving business problems, increasing productivity, and employing competitive advantage strategies. Major topics of the management of Information Systems (IS)/Information Technology (IT) are covered, including strategic and operational issues, the significance of rapidly advancing technology, current technology trends, systems architectures, data management, networking, e-business strategy and tactics, supply chain implications, and human and organizational issues related to Information Technology introduction and use. Prerequisite: CST 301.

INT 499 Capstone for Information Technology

3 Credits

In this course, students will explore project management techniques, including system planning, system analysis, requirements gathering, system development, testing, and maintenance recommendations. Throughout this course, students will embark on a comprehensive journey to develop a real-life application using state of art technologies. Through hands-on experience, students will learn how to use various advanced techniques and concepts to build one application that can work on various devices and platforms. In this course, students will explore various aspects of Progressive Web Applications (PWA), JavaScript, functions, managing data, routes, and event handlers. Upon the completion of the course, students will be able to apply industry-standard practices and principles to develop robust applications that adhere to best practices and provide a seamless user experience. Prerequisites: INT 302, INT 303, INT 304, INT 305, INT 401, and GEN 499. This course must be taken last in the program.
