There’s more to teaching than curriculum, and few know and understand this better than Dr. Michelle Rosser-Majors. Not only does she have the education, experience, and published work to back that up, but she has also overcome her share of tough times, shaping her outlook on what it means to be an educator. She says it’s her past experience that inspires her to always show empathy to her students and the faculty she manages, especially during the pandemic.

Leadership, when demonstrated effectively, goes far beyond giving directives and offering words of encouragement. Effective leaders understand their roles and the roles of those following them; and they embody the concept of leadership with a vision, enthusiasm, influence, integrity, and, most importantly, a genuine desire to help improve those around them. Throughout your career, you will likely witness the highs and lows of leadership, and without question, the former belongs to those who believe in paying it forward.

Today’s job interview is evolving. Companies that once recruited solely from a local talent pool are expanding their talent searches beyond the radius of their home cities, identifying top performers through virtual career fairs and diversifying their workforces through remote hiring.

You did it. You graduated and now you’re ready to pursue your next goal, and for many of you, that includes finding a job, advancing to a new position at your current place of employment, or seeking a career change altogether. Bu your tenacity will help you overcome the hurdles, much like when you balanced your education, work, family, and life while pursuing your degree. When he was 16 years old, School of Business and Technology faculty member Michael Hayden built and raced a blown gas jet boat that went nine miles faster per hour than anyone had ever gone. It’s a world record that remains unbroken to this day.

“We designed the motor and built the manifold,” he explains. “It was a 572 cubic-inch gas engine that was about 1600 horsepower. It was extremely fast!”
