Returning to College

Starting back to school after some time away can raise many questions. Whether you previously attended the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC), or you’re coming back after military service or with a Full Tuition Grant, the following frequently asked questions provide general guidelines to help you resume your education.
  • Life doesn’t always follow a straight path — sometimes your education needs to pause. At UAGC, we make it simple to start again:

    • If it’s been less than one year, you may be eligible to reenter your program.
    • If it’s been a year or more, you’ll need to reapply.

Start with the Return to School form [link to form]. From there, a Reengagement Advisor will partner with you one-on-one to make sure your goals, credits, and support needs are all aligned for your successful return.

  • Course start dates may have changed since you last attended UAGC. Your official start date depends on your program’s availability and on whether you’ve submitted all required admission and financial aid documents. Once your paperwork is complete and everything is approved, your advisor will confirm your start date and guide you through the next steps.

  • No. You can begin an online associate or bachelor’s degree program at UAGC if you meet admission requirements, even if you’ve never attended college before. Certain programs may have additional prerequisites.

  • Courses remain flexible and asynchronous, so you decide when to log in and complete weekly work. Some programs may include live (synchronous) sessions, but instructors provide accommodations — like recorded sessions — when needed. Attendance is required each week and is met by participating in an academic activity such as posting in a discussion, submitting an assignment, or completing a quiz.

  • Yes. UAGC accepts approved transfer credits following an official evaluation.

    • Transfer approved credits from prior coursework, military training, CLEP/DSST exams, and professional certifications may be considered. The number of credits accepted depends on your program and the source of your previous learning.

Be sure to submit your official transcripts early, so your credits can be reviewed and applied to your degree plan. For detailed transfer credit policies, refer to the UAGC Academic Catalog.

  • You can request official transcripts directly through the UAGC Registrar’s Office. For questions, email Transcript.Request@uagc.edu.

If you previously attended Ashford University, your records are now maintained by UAGC, and transcripts are issued under the UAGC name with notation of the former institution

  • Yes. The University of Arizona Global Campus is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). UAGC has also received specialized accreditation for various programs. For more information visit https://www.uagc.edu/about/accreditation.

  • Courses are still designed with busy students balancing work and life in mind:

    • You take one course at a time.
    • Courses are accelerated, so you can make steady progress.
    • 24/7 access lets you balance school with life and work.

Just remember—consistent participation each week is required to remain in good standing.

  • Yes. Former Ashford University students can continue their education at UAGC and your academic records remain valid:

    • Credits you earned still count toward your degree.
    • Official transcripts are now issued by UAGC.
    • You’ll simply follow the returning student process (reenter or reapply, depending on how long you’ve been away).
  • All students can apply and receive funding if they are eligible. Funding opportunities include:

    • Federal grants and loans (via FAFSA)
    • Institutional scholarships
    • Employer tuition assistance
    • Specialized programs such as the Full Tuition Grant and Military Tuition Grant
  • If your employer is a UAGC partner and participates in the Full Tuition Grant program, you may be eligible to have 100% of your tuition covered for eligible undergraduate and master’s degree programs. In most cases, students are responsible for the cost of course materials/books and fees. Your advisor will help confirm eligibility and guide you through renewal paperwork if needed.

  • Yes, Title IV Federal Financial Aid funding is available to all FTG students who apply and qualify, and can be used to assist in covering the costs for course materials/books and fees.

  • Your class will require academic participation at least twice per week through activities such as discussion boards, assignments, or quizzes. Attendance rules also apply:

    • Undergraduate intro courses: at least once every 7 days
    • Non-intro courses: at least once every 14 days

Missing participation may affect grades or lead to administrative withdrawal.
