MAT Mathematics Courses at Global Campus

These math courses can be essential to your business career. Taken in programs such as the Master of Accountancy or the Master of Business Administration (MBA), you will expand your mathematics knowledge and learn to perform computations in various numerations systems from ancient to modern. You will also learn to utilize algorithms for solving algebraic equations and use algebraic logic and methods to solve problems.

MAT Mathematics Class Descriptions and Credit Information

MAT 205 Quantitative Explorations in Everyday Life

3 Credits
This course is designed to engage students in complex and realistic situations involving the mathematical phenomena of quantity, change and relationship. Emphasis is placed on authentic contexts which will introduce the concepts of numeracy, proportional reasoning, dimensional analysis, rates of growth, personal finance, consumer statistics, and mathematics for citizenship. Upon completion, students should be able to utilize quantitative information as consumers and to make personal, professional, and civic decisions by decoding, interpreting, using, and communicating quantitative information found in modern media and encountered in everyday life.

MAT 222 Intermediate Algebra

3 Credits

In this course, students will explore a wide range of Algebra topics. Topics will include study of linear equations, linear relationships, slope, polynomials, and functions, including graphing relations and solving systems of equations. Emphasis will be placed on developing an awareness of historical and current uses of algebra in real life settings, in various careers, and in solving important societal problems.

MAT 232 Statistical Literacy

3 Credits

This course is designed to meet general education quantitative reasoning (mathematics) requirements. It will cover such topics as measures of center, dispersion, and position to interpret real-world situations. Students will construct graphs that summarize data and interpret results, as well as utilize properties of the normal curve to solve real-world problems. Students will set up hypothesis tests and apply them to real-world situations.

MAT 233 Statistics and Discrete Mathematics

3 Credits

This course introduces fundamental concepts in statistics and discrete mathematics. Students will learn to analyze statistical data, work with continuous random variables, and interpret graphical representations such as histograms and bar charts. Additionally, the course provides a solid foundation in discrete mathematics, focusing on developing the ability to clearly explain key mathematical ideas.

MAT 540 Statistical Concepts for Research

3 Credits

This course demonstrates how to apply selected statistical techniques to a wide variety of problems and situations arising in the areas of business, economics, finance, management, social science, health, psychology, and education. Topics include graphical description of data; measures of location and dispersion; probability; discrete and continuous random variables; sampling distributions and estimation; confidence intervals and hypothesis tests; simple linear regression and correlation.
