HSM 320 Emergency Response to Terrorism

3 Credits

This course is designed to provide students with the ability to evaluate an emergency incident, determine its scope, understand the function of the first responders, learn the communication procedures necessary to alert the appropriate agencies, and understand how first responders are dispatched. Students will create a recovery plan for response to large-scale terrorist incidents.

ACC 697 Audit Capstone

3 Credits

This course is designed to bring together knowledge gained from the previous program courses. Broadly the course emphasizes complex auditing concepts and will also encompass accounting concepts, financial statement reporting, taxes, risks, information systems, business law, and ethics.

PPA 605 Negotiation, Bargaining & Conflict Management

3 Credits

This course analyzes bargaining and negotiation principles and practices in the public sector. The course focuses on the financial issues of contract negotiations and labor relations and building negotiation skills of the administrator.

ECE 214 Nutrition & Health of Children & Families

3 Credits

This course will introduce students to strategies that support and encourage the involvement of families in promoting children's health, safety, and nutrition, as well as the importance of establishing a safe and healthy environment that fosters growth and development in young children. Learners will develop educator philosophies that prioritize children’s well-being and design activities that teach children about health, nutrition, and safety.

BUS 250 Corporate & Social Responsibility

3 Credits

This course explores Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainable practices, and the emerging area of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) in business and society, while emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement, ethical governance, and responsible decision-making. It examines the interconnectedness of sustainable business practices, purpose driven initiatives, and the role of leadership in fostering positive change in today’s world. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of how business can effectively integrate CSR and sustainability into their operational strategies, promoting ethical practices and contributing to the global drive for a more sustainable and responsible future.

EDU 352 Foundations of Educational Technology

3 Credits

Foundations of Educational Technology is a comprehensive course that examines the influence of educational technology on teaching and learning, with a primary focus on utilizing emerging technology to enhance culturally-responsive student learning and engagement. This course provides prospective educators, instructional designers, and curriculum developers with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex relationship between a variety of technology applications and diverse learning environments. Students will engage in collaborative discussions examining ethics in utilizing technology and will apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with necessary tools and insights to analyze various applications of educational technology within learning environments and to synthesize an instructional unit using integrated educational technology that promotes achievement for all learners.

MGT 321 Assessing Leadership Skills

3 Credits

This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to assess their personal leadership approach(es) using various leadership assessments and develop their personal leadership journal based on the traits, skills, behaviors, and theories discovered. The course includes foundational leadership perspectives and their evolution in the practice of leadership with a focus on what it means to be a good leader in diverse communities and environments. Students will gain an understanding of their leadership performance and their strengths and opportunities in order to develop a personal vision of the leader they are and want to be. Prerequisite: BUS 119.

HSM 311 Ethics & Homeland Security

3 Credits

This course provides a foundation of classical ethical theories and explores the ethical framework and critical decision–making models likely to be used in Homeland Security and Emergency Management environments.  Students will be challenged to analyze the ethical considerations for emergency response, civil rights, local government powers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, weapons of mass destruction, domestic and international anti-terrorism efforts. Students will also examine important civil and human rights concerns generated by security needs and assess how to balance the need for security with personal privacy, cybersecurity, and commerce.

ECE 205 Introduction to Child Development

3 Credits

This course examines the principles of child development from birth to age 8. Students will explore the essential aspects of child development, focusing on developmental domains, stages, milestones, and theories. Learners will gain an understanding of environments and activities that nurture the developmental domains of young children. Through observations, students will learn to plan developmentally appropriate instruction tailored to individual needs. The course also emphasizes the critical role of family involvement in supporting the growth and development of children.

ACC 695 Accounting Capstone

3 Credits

This course is designed to bring together knowledge gained from the previous program courses and allow the student to demonstrate how the various components of an accounting system work together. Broadly the course encompasses complex accounting concepts, financial statement reporting, taxes, risks, information systems, auditing, business law, and ethics.
